26th July 2019, Bhutan Weightlifting Association (BWA) conducted the 1st National Weightlifting Championship on 20th July 2019 at Lugar Theater. There were VIP guests from Bhutan Government offices and private business who had observed in this event, also hundreds of spectator came to celebrate their first championships in the Kingdom of Bhutan.
In this competition, there were three categories for Senior, Junior and Youth and 30 athletes participated to gain more experiences in the real competition. With NOC and private support, this event was the first big step of weightlifting in Bhutan, it was useful for the athletes and coaches to develop themselves for future events, starting with SAARC Games, Nepal in this December.
