2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships Started with Record-Breaking Performances in Jiangshan

The first day of the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships, hosted in the city of Jiangshan, China, concluded with a series of remarkable achievements, underscoring the event’s stature as a premier platform for athletic excellence. Athletes from across Asia delivered awe-inspiring performances, with host nation China asserting early dominance atop the medal standings.
The day’s most electrifying moment came from Chinese weightlifter Zhao Jinhong, who etched her name into the weightlifting history. Competing in the women’s 45 kg category, Zhao shattered both the World and Asian Records in the Snatch with an extraordinary lift of 90 kg.

The men’s 55 kg category emerged as a mainly point of competition. Vietnamese athlete Lai Gia Thanh seized an early advantage, clinching gold in the Snatch with a formidable 120 kg lift. However, the Clean and Jerk saw a stunning reversal as China’s Wang Weidong delivered a clutch performance. Wang lifted 146 kg in the Clean and Jerk, securing gold in both C&J and total with a combined 265 kg.

Medal Table Highlights

China concluded the first day of competition in a commanding position, securing 5 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Thailand followed in second place with 3 gold medals, while Vietnam claimed third with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals.

As the Championships progress, all eyes remain on Jiangshan, where records are challenged, rivalries are intensified. Notably, the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships holds historical significance as the final continental event to feature 10 body weight categories.
