Bahrain will host the Asian Weightlifting Championship from October 6 to 16 under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The event is being organised by the Bahrain Weightlifting Federation under the supervision of the Asian Weightlifting Federation.
Shaikh Khalid said that hosting the Asian tournament is in line with His Majesty King Hamad’s directives to make Bahrain a destination for major international competitions.
He also wished Bahrain Weightlifting Federation success in hosting the prestigious tournament.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Khalid yesterday received International Weightlifting Federation president Mohammed Jalood Al Shammari and affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to work closely with the federation for the development of the sport in the kingdom. Al Shammari thanked Shaikh Khalid for his support and also praised the efforts made to develop the sport in Bahrain.
The meeting was attended by GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji, Bahrain Weightlifting Federation president Ishaq Ibrahim and GSA chief executive Dr Abdulrahman Askar.
