Let’s start with the weekend events! AO Hui (CHN) won the Snatch (117kg), 6kg over KIM Un Ju (PRK) in women’s 87kg bodyweight category. In the Clean and Jerk, KIM lifted 152kg, only 1kg over AO, but AO totally won the Gold Medal in Total. The Chinese lifter won with 268kg while the PRK lifters lifted 263kg for Silver. The Third is SANTANA PEGUERO Crismery Dominga (DOM) with 254kg in Total and the second in Snatch (116kg) while VALDES PARIS Maria Fernanda (CHI) won the third in Clean and Jerk (140kg).
In the women’s +87 kg Women bodyweight category, KASHIRINA Tatiana (RUS) won the Snatch (145kg), Clean and Jerk (185kg) and Total (330kg). KASHIRINA set a new World Record with almost every lift while MENG Suping (CHN) was behind KASHIRINA with only 1kg in the Snatch and 2kg in Clean and Jerk. Furthermore, MENG also set a World Record in Clean and Jerk (184kg), but it was immediately taken away by the Russian lifter (185kg). For the Bronze Medal, KIM Kuk Hyang, claimed the Snatch with 130kg and CHAIDEE Duangaksorn (THA) won in Clean and Jerk (167kg) and Total (296kg).
In the Men’s 109kg bodyweight category, MARTIROSYAN Simon (AMR), European Champion, became the World Champion. Although he won Silver Medal in Snatch (195kg), but he won Gold Medal in Clean and Jerk (240kg), New World Record. He also won Gold and set the Total World Record at 435kg. Moreover, YANG Zhe (CHN) won Gold Medal in Snatch (196kg) and claimed Silver in Total (419kg) while MICHALSKI Arkadiusz (POL), Silver Medalist, lifted 228kg in Clean and Jerk and took the third place 403kg in Total. In addition, NURUDINOV Ruslan (UZB) failed in Snatch, but never gave up. He return in Clean and Jerk and claimed Bronze with 227kg.
We came to the last event of the 2018 World Championships. TALAKHADZE Lasha (GEO) made the moment of glory when he set seven World Records in Men’s +109kg bodyweight category. TALAKHADZE, set two World Records at 212 and 217kg in Snatch. Also, he set the new World Record in Clean and Jerk (257kg). In the Total, he made new World Record three times (462, 469, 474kg). The Silver Medalist with 450kg is MINASYAN Gor (AMR) and Bronze Medalist with 447kg is DJANGABAEV Rustam (UZB).
Another Georgian, TURMANIDZE Irakli was third in Snatch (203kg) behind TALAKHADZE and MINASYAN, unfortunately he did not lift in the Clean and Jerk because of an injury. This was the last event of the 2018 World Championships in Ashgabat. The IWF flag was ceremonially handed over to the representative of Thailand. The 2019 IWF World Championships will be held in September 2019 at Pattaya, Thailand. Let’s see you again there!!
