The Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) has confirmed that four member federations have officially submitted bids to host the AWF Electoral Congress in December 2026. The bidding window, which opened on April 1, closed yesterday with the following candidates in contention:
Iran
Maldives
Qatar
Singapore
The Selection Process
Delegates from the bidding nations will deliver formal presentations to the AWF Executive Board during its upcoming meeting in Gandhinagar, India, held alongside the Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships (May 9–17).
The Executive Board will evaluate each proposal based on logistical infrastructure, hosting capacity, and the ability to provide a neutral, high-standard environment for the federation’s quadrennial elections.
Strategic Importance
The December Electoral Congress is the cornerstone of the AWF’s governance, where the leadership for the next Olympic cycle will be determined. The announcement of the winning host city is expected to follow the conclusion of the Gandhinagar sessions.
