The 2024 IWF World Championships in Manama, Bahrain, concluded with Asia emerging as the top-performing continent, securing the highest number of medals across categories. A remarkable 29 world records were broken during the event, making it one of the most memorable championships in recent history.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (PRK) earned the title of Best Women’s Team, with PRK and China dominating the women’s medal tally. On the men’s side, China was crowned Best Men’s Team, while PRK, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan were best in medal table.

Bahrain’s efforts as the host nation were widely praised, with Eshaq Ebrahim Eshaq, president of the Bahrain Weightlifting Federation, stating, “It has been like a festival – nobody wanted it to end.” The organizing committee worked tirelessly for 18 months to ensure the event’s success, delivering a world-class experience.
AWF President Mohamed Yousef Al Mana and General Secretary Mohhamed Ahmed Al Harbi commended the organization, saying, “The competition venue, presentation, spectator engagement, training hall, hotels, transport, food, fanzone… everything worked really well.
IWF President Mohammed Jalood echoed the praise, stating at the closing ceremony, “Bahrain has raised the World Championships bar to a new level.”
