1st April 2020, The new countdown to Tokyo 2020 has begun, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Local Organizing Committee officially confirming that the Olympics will now take place from 23rd July to 8th August 2021.
The Olympic Games will take place almost one year later than originally planned, also it will still be called Tokyo 2020 despite taking place in 2021. The decision to postpone the event was taken to protect the health of the athletes and everyone involved, and to support the containment of the COVID-19. The announcement of the new dates is just the first step and the next one is to clarify the questions regarding the Qualification System. IOC will provide the modified principles and framework for the qualification and let’s hope that it will published for weightlifting soon.
