Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China – The 2022 Asian Games, which commenced on 23rd September and will run until 8th October 2023, witnessed the start of the weightlifting event on 30th September. The day was marked by exceptional performances, world records, and a display of sheer strength and determination by the athletes.

In the W 49kg category, RI Songgum from DPR Korea showcased an outstanding performance by clinching gold with a world record total of 216kg. She further stamped her result by setting another world record in the clean and jerk with a lift of 124kg. JIANG Huihua of China secured the silver with a commendable 213kg, while Thailand’s SUKCHAROEN Thanyathon rounded off the podium with a total of 199kg.

The W 55kg session was no less thrilling. KANG Hyongyong from DPR Korea dazzled the audience by setting a world record with a total of 233kg. She also established world records in both the snatch with 103kg and the clean and jerk with 130kg. Her compatriot, RI Suyon, added to DPR Korea’s medal tally by securing silver. China’s HOU Zhihui displayed immense grit to take home the bronze.

The day was a testament to the prowess of Asian weightlifters on the global stage. Their dedication, hard work, and resilience were evident in every lift, every drop of sweat, and every cheer from the crowd. As we move forward in the competition, we extend our heartiest congratulations to all the medalists and wish the best of luck to all participants in the upcoming sessions.

The bar has been set high, and the world eagerly awaits more record-breaking performances.
