On 9 August 2026, during the 2026 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 7 to 14 August 2026, an election meeting was held to elect the leadership of the Central Asian Section of the Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF).
The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohammed Hasan Jalood, President of IWF and First Vice President of the AWF, Mr. Mohammed Ahmad Al Harbi, Secretary General of the AWF, as well as the representatives who submitted their candidacies for the election.
During the meeting, the following matters were discussed:
– Election of the governing body of the AWF Central Asian Section;
– Further development of the sport of weightlifting in Central Asia;
– Organization of Cetral Asian Open Weightlifting Championships among the Central Asian countries;
– Ensuring the participation of other Asian countries and Turkic brotherly nations in the Open Championships in addition to the Central Asian countries.
The candidates who had submitted applications for the leadership positions of the Central Asian Section were put to a vote, and the following composition was elected unanimously:
Shakhrillo Makhmudov (UZB) – Chairman (re-elected)
Gadji Gadjiev (KAZ) – First Vice Chairman
Charygeldi Mammedov (TKM) – Vice Chairman
Sajjad Anoushiravani (IRI) – Secretary General
Madina Astamirova (KAZ) – Executive Board Member
Mohammad Azam Kohi (AFG) – Executive Board Member
Shamil Tariel (KGZ) – Executive Board Member
Ahya Sharifi (TJK) – Executive Board Member
During the meeting, it was also noted that the Central Asian Open Weightlifting Championship has been organized in Uzbekistan since 2022, initially involving the five Central Asian countries. It was emphasized that the event is currently held twice a year in Tashkent and has the status of an Open International Tournament, allowing participation not only from Central Asian countries but also from other nations.
Furthermore, it was highlighted that brotherly countries such as Turkey and Azerbaijan are already participating in the competition, demonstrating the growing international significance and regional cooperation fostered through this championship.
