Day 5 Report: World Records Shattered as Women Dominate at the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships Jiangshan, China

The fifth day of the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jiangshan, China, witnessed a spectacular display of strength and record-breaking performances, particularly in the women’s categories. Several athletes etched their names into the history books, setting new senior Asian and world records, captivating the enthusiastic crowd.

Women’s 71kg Category: Yang and Song Engage in Thrilling Battle of Records

The women’s 71kg category proved to be a highlight of the day, featuring a captivating duel between China’s YANG Qiuxia and DPR Korea’s SONG Kuk Hyang. In the snatch, Yang showcased her dominance, successfully lifting 122kg on her third attempt to claim the gold medal and set a new senior Asian and world record. Song secured the silver with a 121kg lift, while the Philippines’ MACROHON Kristel took bronze with a best lift of 105kg.

The clean & jerk saw a reversal of fortunes, with Song Kuk Hyang unleashing a powerful 155kg lift for the gold and another senior Asian and world record. She opted out of her third attempt. Yang settled for silver with a 140kg lift, while Macrohon added another medal to her tally, snatching the bronze with a 131kg effort.

The total result saw Song Kuk Hyang emerge victorious with a new senior Asian and world record of 276kg. Yang Qiuxia secured the silver medal with a total of 262kg, and Kristel Macrohon of the Philippines claimed the bronze with 236kg.

Women’s 76kg Category: Liao Sets Unprecedented Standards

China’s LIAO Guifang delivered a commanding performance in the women’s 76kg category, setting new senior Asian and world records in both the snatch and the total. She secured the snatch gold with a remarkable 125kg lift. Chinese Taipei’s CHEN Wen-Huei took silver with 109kg, and Korea’s KIM Suhyeon claimed the bronze with 100kg.

Liao continued her dominance in the clean & jerk, lifting a massive 154kg for the gold. Kim Suhyeon secured the silver with a 134kg lift, while Chen Wen-Huei took the bronze with 133kg.

Liao Guifang’s exceptional performance culminated in a new senior Asian and world record total of 279kg, earning her a well-deserved gold medal. Chen Wen-Huei secured the silver with a total of 242kg, and Kim Suhyeon took the bronze with 234kg.

Women’s 81kg Category: Wu Yan Leads Chinese Sweep

China’s WU Yan emerged victorious in the women’s 81kg category, securing the gold medal with a 116kg snatch. Korea’s KIM Iseul took silver with 105kg, and Uzbekistan’s ADASHBAEVA Rigina claimed bronze with 104kg.

In the clean & jerk, Wu Yan continued her strong showing, lifting 147kg for another gold medal. Kim Iseul secured her second silver of the day with a 130kg lift, and Uzbekistan’s FAYZULLAEVA Madina took the bronze with 121kg.

The total results saw Wu Yan claim the gold medal with 263kg. Kim Iseul secured the silver with 235kg, and Adashbaeva Rigina of Uzbekistan took the bronze with 224kg.

Men’s 96kg Category: Iranian Duel Ends with Alipour on Top

The men’s 96kg category witnessed a compelling battle between Iranian teammates. In the snatch, MOEINI SEDEH Alireza secured the gold medal with a 180kg lift, followed closely by ALIPOUR Ali with 174kg for silver, and China’s QIAN Feixiang with 173kg for bronze.

The clean & jerk saw Alipour turn the tables, successfully lifting 216kg for the gold. Korea’s WON Jongbeom secured the silver with 215kg, and Qian Feixiang added another bronze to his collection with a 207kg lift.

Ultimately, Alipour Ali emerged as the champion in the total, securing the gold medal with 390kg. Won Jongbeom took the silver with 385kg, and Moeini Sedeh Alireza settled for bronze with 383kg.

Asian Weightlifting Championships 2025: Top Medal Contenders After Day 5

China dominates the medal count with a commanding lead of 45 medals (23 gold). DPR Korea holds a strong second place with 12 medals, including 9 golds. Thailand and Indonesia are also in the top tier with 6 and 7 total medals respectively, both securing 3 gold medals each. Korea has accumulated the most silver and bronze, totaling 16 medals overall (2 gold). Chinese Taipei and the Philippines are strong contenders with significant silver medal hauls.

Day 5 of the Asian Weightlifting Championships showcased the immense talent and dedication within the continent, with several world records falling and thrilling competitions keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. The championships continue to deliver exciting action as they head into the final days.
