13th South Games: First Gold for Nepal Lifter in Women and 4 Gold for India

6th December 2019, Let’s celebrate for Nepal team, the first time of Gold medal for Women in the major event, also India team did great jobs with 4 Gold. Moreover, Bhutan lifters started their first step of international competition in this games.

Welcome to the 13th South Asian Games, the major regional multi-sport events in South Asia, Nepal has organized the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) at SRKC hall, Pokhara during 5th – 8th December 2019.

The first event was Women 45kg and the first Gold was belonged to JHILLI Dalabehera (IND) with 151kg. D.M.S. Samarakoon (SRI) lifted 139kg and SANGITA Rai (NEP) for 127kg. In Women 49kg, SNEHA Soren (IND) lifted 157kg, defeated B.G.D. Hansani (SRI) only 2kg, and MOLLA Shabira (BAN) for the Bronze – 130kg.

Y.D.I. Kumara (SRI) showed his great power when he got 235kg in Total, 51kg more than the second, RAJKUMAR Roy (BAN) – 184kg. The third place was TULARAM Mahato (NEP) with 178kg in Men 55kg.

It became more interesting for Men 55 kg when SONAM Choki, the first Bhutan lifter in the international event, participated in this event. The Gold medalist was BINDYARANI DEVI Sorokhaibam (IND) 181kg, Silver – FULLPOTI Chakma (BAN) 148kg, and Bronze – SAIMA Shahzad (PAK) 135kg.

In Women 59kg, there is the national record of the host country because SANJU Chaudhary (NEP) won the first Gold – 171kg in the major event for Nepal weightlifting team. R.M.N.S. Rajapaksha (SRI), the second, beat FAYEMA Akther (BAN) only 1 kg when she lifted 161kg.

The last event of day was Men 61kg and SIDHANTA Gogoi took the forth Gold for Indian team. SIDHANTA lost in Snatch, but the Total result, 264kg, was enough for the Gold medal. D.K.T.W. Palugashinghe (SRI) lifted 263kg, only 1kg less, and 235kg for MOSTAIN Bella (BAN) in the third place.
