Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF)  Congress Held During the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jiangshan 2025

The Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) successfully convened its Ordinary Congress on the occasion of the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jiangshan, China. The Congress was presided over by AWF President Mohammed Yusef Almana, alongside AWF First Vice President Mohammed Hassan Jalood and AWF General Secretary Mohammed Alharby, in accordance with the federation’s statutory protocols.

During the proceedings, comprehensive reports were presented by the AWF’s four standing committees: the Coaching & Research Committee, Technical Committee, Development Committee, and Marketing Committee. These reports outlined strategic progress, operational updates, and future initiatives aimed at advancing weightlifting across Asia.

A highlight of the Congress was a formal presentation by the Kazakhstan Weightlifting Federation, which detailed preparations for the 2025 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships. Scheduled to take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 4–10 July 2025, this event holds historic significance as it will mark the inaugural global implementation of the new bodyweight categories approved by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). This milestone underscores the AWF’s commitment to aligning with international standards and fostering innovation within the sport.

Furthermore, the AWF Congress ratified key decisions regarding future championships:

– The 2026 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships were awarded to Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

– The 2027 Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships were designated to Jeonju, South Korea.

These allocations reflect the AWF’s dedication to promoting regional development and inclusivity in weightlifting. The Congress concluded with reaffirmed commitments to athlete development, technical excellence, and commercial growth, in line with the AWF’s strategic vision for 2025–2028.
