TASHKENT, 4 August 2026 — Asian Weightlifting Federation Secretary General Mohammed Al Harbi visited the venue of the 2026 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships to review the final stage of preparations for the continental event. Al Harbi is the serving Secretary General of the Asian Weightlifting Federation.
The championships will take place in Tashkent from 7 to 14 August 2026, bringing together promising youth and junior weightlifters from across Asia. The competition and training sessions will be held at the Complex of Martial Arts in New Uzbekistan Olympic Town.
During the inspection, the AWF Secretary General examined the competition venue and reviewed the organizational work being carried out by the Local Organizing Committee. Particular attention was given to the readiness of the competition platform, training and warm-up areas, technical officials’ facilities, athlete services, accreditation arrangements and other operational zones.
The visit also provided an opportunity to assess coordination between the Asian Weightlifting Federation, the Uzbekistan Weightlifting Federation and the Local Organizing Committee. Organizers presented updates on logistical arrangements, transportation, accommodation, medical support, security and the movement of athletes and officials within the venue.
With only a few days remaining before the opening ceremony, preparations have entered their final phase. According to the official timetable, the training venue opened on 4 August, while the AWF Executive Board meeting and Technical Officials’ Meeting are scheduled for 6 August. The opening ceremony and the first competitions will take place on 7 August.
The inspection underlined the importance of providing safe, professional and athlete-friendly conditions throughout the championships. The organizing team continues to complete final technical checks and venue preparations to ensure that all participating delegations receive the necessary support.
Tashkent has considerable experience in hosting major international weightlifting competitions, including world and continental championships. The 2026 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships will offer the continent’s emerging athletes an important opportunity to compete at a high level, gain international experience and represent their national federations on the Asian stage.
