The Cambodia Weightlifting Federation (CWF) is strengthening its capacity in anticipation of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games.
The CWF is the latest sports federation to make the extra effort to improve its capacity and capability ahead of Cambodia’s hosting of the 2023 SEA Games.
The others that did earlier include Ju-jitsu Federation of Cambodia (JFC), Cambodian DanceSport Federation (CDSF) and Cambodia Boxing Federation (CBF), local media reported.
The CWF organised a four-day training course for international technical officers to strengthen the capacity of referees and judges, who are expected to play an important role in the upcoming Games.
The training started at the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) headquarters in Phnom Penh on November 22, and will conclude three days later.
The participants include weightlifting referees and judges from Phnom Penh and several other provinces.
International expert Yong Joo Liaw, Executive Member of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and First Vice President of the Southeast Asian Weightlifting Federation (SAWF), conducted the training, which tackled 10 topics related to the sport.
In addition with helping officiate weightlifting competitions during the next SEA Games, the participants are also expected to take part in the ongoing National Games.
“They will do their part in both local and international competitions,” the NOCC noted.
The 3rd National Games started on November 21 and will conclude at the end of the month.
NOCC Secretary-General Vath Chamroeun, who is also the president of CWF, was present for the opening ceremony.
“This is a good opportunity for participants to learn about the new rules of international weightlifting, which they can put to use to develop the sport here,” he said. “This will make them better prepared for the 2023 SEA Games and beyond.”
