The Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships 2025 – Day 2: New Standards Surpassed

Astana, Kazakhstan – July 5, 2025 – The Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships 2025 continued with remarkable energy and excitement on Day 2 in Astana, Kazakhstan. As the first official continental event under the new IWF bodyweight categories and revised world and Asian standards, the championships are not only awarding medals but also recognizing athletes as record holders when they surpass the new benchmarks.

Competitions on Day 2 took place in Men’s 56kg (Youth), 60kg (Youth & Junior), and Women’s 53kg (Youth & Junior) categories, with athletes pushing boundaries and etching their names into the record books.

 

Youth Categories – Day 2 Highlights

In the Men’s 56kg Youth category, Van The HUNG (Vietnam) lifted a total of 242kg to win gold. He set a new Asian youth record in clean & jerk with 137kg, exceeding the standard and becoming the first official record holder in this weight class. Dharmajvoti DEWGARHIYA (India) took silver with 222kg, while Nutchanon CHADCHAY (Thailand) secured bronze with 221kg.

The Women’s 53kg Youth division witnessed another record-breaking moment as Thanh Tuyen LUONG (Vietnam) lifted 85kg in the snatch, surpassing the new Asian youth standard and establishing an official record. Her total of 183kg earned her the gold medal. Jhodie PERALTA (Philippines) claimed silver with 181kg, and Ogulshat AMANOVA (Turkmenistan) earned bronze with 174kg.

In the Men’s 60kg Youth competition, Maharajan A (India) emerged victorious with a total of 255kg. His teammate, Sunil SINGH, claimed silver with 238kg, and Jerick Icon CASTRO (Philippines) completed the podium with 233kg for bronze.

 

Junior Categories – New Standards Surpassed

The Women’s 53kg Junior title went to Natcha KAEWNOI (Thailand) with a total of 190kg. Thi Thanh Tuyen LUONG (Vietnam), who also competed in the youth division, won silver with 183kg. Jhodie PERALTA (Philippines) repeated her bronze-medal finish with 181kg.

The Men’s 60kg Junior event was a highlight of the day. Duong K’ (Vietnam) took gold with a total of 282kg, while Lixin KANG (China) followed with 273kg for silver. Tuan Kiet DUONG (Vietnam), also lifting 282kg, earned bronze due to body weight rules, but made headlines by breaking the junior Asian clean & jerk standard with 162kg, thereby setting a new official record.

As the championships unfold, this historic edition continues to celebrate not only the achievements of Asia’s best young lifters but also the beginning of a new era in international weightlifting under the updated IWF framework. More action and records are expected in the coming days.
